BUT JESUS SAID TO HIM.. FOLLOW ME AND
LET THE DEAD BURY THEIR OWN DEAD.. MATTHEW 8:22.
THE
PRICE IS RIGHT !
We often
hear of the cliché around Christendom
Jesus paid the cost.
And this is true to a degree. Jesus actually died on a cross for sinners and we
may be saved by grace through faith in Him. And then faith in Him will always lead us to
strive to enter via the narrow gate ... amen?
But there is another price also to be paid .. and this is to be paid by each individual
that takes the offer of eternal life and safety. Matthew talks about it in Matthew
8:18-22, Matthew 10:34-39, Matthew 13:45,46.
All of these scriptures relate to death to self, relatives, family, this world
and selfish ambition. Yet we have the famous cliché of .. Jesus paid the price drummed
into the heads of each and every church goer in the world, leaving the gullible, the
ignorant and the unlearned with no other thought than that Jesus paid the price, there's
naught to be done.
Jesus did pay the price but as we have already seen by the words of Matthew,
there is a price for all to pay who choose to follow after the Christ. So we clearly
understand that there is .. a cost!.. there is a price we must pay to gain
eternal life. The man who said to Jesus, let me first bury my father, found this out real
quick. The scribe said to Jesus.. I will follow you wherever you go! .. are you sure
about that?
Jesus words were
I have nothing, not even a bed .. Matthew 8:20.
In general
Jesus got personal, financial and domestic about the entire
issue of discipleship, being a Christian and one of His sheep, a saint.
MATTHEW 8:19 |
..SCRIBE GETS GENEROUSLY KEEN |
20 |
..JESUS INFORMS INTENDED FOLLOWER ITS NOT AN EASY ROAD, I HAVE NO CREATURE
COMFORTS NOT EVEN A BED. |
21 |
..ANOTHER DECIDES HE WILL FOLLOW ON HIS TERMS AS MOST SEEM TO THINK TODAY. |
22 |
..BUT JESUS SAYS .. I AM NUMBER ONE OR NUMBER NONE. |
These are
only a few of the many references to prove, confirm and reveal that there is a price to
pay and if we choose not to pay the price we shall pay the ultimate price of
eternal
torment
2 Timothy 2:11-13.
When anyone new comes into our local church, I am always quick to let them know that it
will cost them to attend our church. It will cost them their sin and their life, which is
the very cost of discipleship in the Christ.
Amen.
