AND ABOVE ALL THINGS HAVE FERVENT
LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER FOR LOVE WILL COVER A MULTITUDE OF SINS... 1 PETER 4.8. |
FERVENT LOVE .... REBUKES!
Many have
taken the above scripture and used it as a shield to live in sin whilst claiming the name
Christian but what did Paul the apostle say to his son in the Christ?... 2 Timothy
2:19B ...
THE LORD KNOWS THOSE WHO ARE HIS .. AND LET EVERYONE WHO NAMES THE NAME OF CHRIST
DEPART FROM INIQUITY.
Men and women have a strange way of showing love, especially those who come under the
heading of unsaved or lukewarm. I have no problem with the love shown by sold out
believers of the Christ, as being example material to the whole world. But anything
else is plain dangerous.
Gods love can never be associated with anything that accepts sin, so what is St Peter
saying above?.. I believe that we can find a parallel in the words of James 5:19,20 ..
BRETHREN .. IF ANYONE AMONG YOU WANDERS FROM THE TRUTH AND SOMEONE TURNS HIM BACK,
LET HIM KNOW THAT HE WHO TURNS A SINNER FROM THE ERROR OF HIS WAY WILL SAVE A SOUL FROM
DEATH AND COVER A MULTITUDE OF SINS.
James is relating to erring ones here and you may also notice he is talking to
brethren. James talks about brethren wandering from the truth and those who wander from
the truth are called sinners here. James goes on to say that death awaits those who turn
from the truth and also a multitude of sins. Hence, it is not that we sin but it is the
fact that one sin or turning from the truth can possibly lead us to a multitude - of sins
.. this can open the doors of death for any among the brethren.. let us be careful of
this.. 1 Corinth 13:6.
So what about covering the sins, how is this done?.. by simply overlooking the sin of our
brethren and saying nothing?.. this in itself is the way of the Roman Catholic System of
old. You don't say anything about my sins and I won't say anything about your sin, ok? ..1
Corinthians 5:9-13.
But what can this do for our souls, spiritual progression or character?.. I say naught!..
this kind of attitude can't help anyone and never has. We should be genuinely concerned
when we see our brethren in sin and act accordingly to the situation in order to save
the soul from death .. amen?.
St Paul said to Timothy to rebuke the sinner in front of everyone, that Godly fear may
arise in the midst of the congregation .. 1 Timothy 5:20.
This kind of love will cover a multitude of sins.. I don't think the sinning brother or
sister will be in too much of a hurry to sin again, do you?. Let me also say that, once
the sinner has been rebuked and he has heeded and hearkened to the rebuke, it should be
mentioned no more. This is the love that covers a multitude of sins. If you know of
brethren who stockpile their sins and you are the one that overlooks it all you are as bad
as they are.. amen.
